Hall Council

The governing body of Wycliffe Hall is the Hall Council, which comprises both clergy and laypersons, who are responsible for overall policy.

 

 

Kenneth MacRitchie

Chair of the Hall Council

Kenneth was born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland. He spent most of his 20s in academia, reading law at Glasgow University, divinity at Aberdeen University and semitic languages (principally biblical Hebrew) at Manchester and Oxford University.  Returning to legal practice in the City of London, he became a partner, first at Clifford Chance and later at Milbank Tweed and Shearman & Sterling, two global New York law firms. He then served in senior UK Government roles setting up the UK Green Investment Bank and the companies that provide subsidies to the UK renewables industry. He also chairs the Oxford Schools Chaplaincy and is a governor of St. Edward’s School, Oxford and The Oxford Academy.

Kenneth has lived in Oxford for more than 30 years, is married to Brenda and has three adult children and two grandchildren. 

 

 

Julie Aldrich

Julie is an alumna of the Hall (BTh 2010) and serving her second tenure on Council. During the past decade and a half, she has worked within local churches in a volunteer capacity in various cities where she and her husband, Griff, have lived and worked: Houston, Texas; Baltimore, Maryland; and presently Farmville, Virginia. She is a Bible Teacher and Small Group Coordinator for Passion Community Church. Julie plays an active role on the board of Fuqua School in Farmville and Young Life of Southside Virginia, a ministry dedicated to introducing teens to Jesus.

Griff and Julie have three children, Scott (13), For (12) and Laura Lee (9).

 

Revd Michael Bigg

Link trustee with Ridley Hall, Cambridge

Michael grew up in Cambridge. After 4 years of working in IT as a self-taught programmer, he felt the lure of finding out more about his faith and went to Durham to read Theology. After returning to Cambridge for an MPhil in New Testament studies, he trained as an RE teacher and ended up as Head of Department at Comberton Village College. Michael trained for ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge and was ordained in 2017. Since 2020, he has been Rector of Girton and Vicar of Madingley, near Cambridge.

Education remains an interest and so Michael sits on the Diocesan Board of Education, as well as being a governor at a local primary school. He serves as a link Trustee with Wycliffe's sister college in Cambridge, Ridley Hall.

Michael is married to Kathryn and they have three young boys.

 

Sarah Finch

Safeguarding trustee

Born into a naval family, and brought up in Hampshire villages, Sarah has spent most of her life in London. She has a degree in French from Durham University and a post-graduate diploma in the History of Art (mainly French) from Oxford University. Sarah has had a ‘portfolio’ life, combining motherhood with freelance editing and committee work. She is currently a member of the St Helen’s PCC and a trustee of Anglican Mainstream, of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (GAFCON) and of The Latimer Trust, a Christian publishing house. Since the year 2000 Sarah has been an elected member of General Synod. She was appointed, as the General Synod representative, to the Councils of two theological colleges: Oak Hill College and then Wycliffe Hall.

Her two grandchildren have always lived abroad, so their London visits are very precious.  For relaxation Sarah enjoys visiting art galleries, singing and gardening.

 

Sarah Gammoh

Sarah was born and brought up in Amman, Jordan. She moved to Scotland to study Business and Economics at the University of Edinburgh, before spending over a decade in banking, and transitioning into leadership roles in FinTech, impact finance and corporate governance. She is the founder and CEO of Charizone, a data and tech platform helping funders and donors scale their charitable giving and impact. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF), promoting sustainable practices across the UK’s financial sector.

Sarah lives in London enjoys spending time with her family and escaping to the outdoors whenever she can.

Philipa Kalungi

Bishop Philip Mounstephen

Philip Mounstephen has been Bishop of Winchester since October 2023, where he encourages the Diocese to dig into its deep Christian DNA and to ‘Walk the Wessex Way’. His past posts include being Bishop of Truro, head of the Church Mission Society and pastoring churches in Paris and London. He is a member of the House of Lords, and whilst Bishop of Truro he authored a report on the UK Government's response to the persecution of Christians. This led to a significant change in government policy, culminating in the passing of a joint UK-sponsored UN Security Council resolution on Freedom of Religion or Belief last year. 
 
Philip read English at Southampton University and after a short teaching career he trained for ordained ministry at Wycliffe. Alongside membership of the Wycliffe Council, he serves on the Board of the University of Winchester and is ‘Visitor’ to five Oxford colleges. He lives in Winchester with his wife Ruth and their dog Noggin. 

Revd Kate Pellereau

Kate Pellereau first studied Theology in Manchester for her BA (Hons). She then worked for an international church in The Hague, followed by ten years as an Religious Studies teacher in independent schools. During this time she completed an MA in Biblical Interpretation focusing on the letter to Philemon. After an unexpected call to ordination, Kate studied at Wycliffe Hall between 2018 and 2020, where she helped run events and enjoyed being a part of the community. She completed her curacy with another Wycliffe alumnus at Buckingham Parish church during the pandemic. She now works in Coventry as Associate Minister for St Laurence’s Church, Foleshill and co-leader of a Mission Hub across the diocese.

Kate lives with her son and her dog and they enjoy being outside either in the mud, sea or sand. She also likes to bake intricate recipes and play squash.

Professor Tom Simpson

Chair of the Governance Subcommittee

As well as being a member of Wycliffe Hall Council, Tom Simpson is Associate Professor of Philosophy & Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and a Senior Research Fellow at Wadham College. At the Blavatnik School he co-directs the Master of Public Policy, and directs the Military Leadership and Judgment Programme. His academic research focuses on contemporary issues in moral and political philosophy.

Tom worships at St Marys, Chipping Norton, where his wife is Pastor for Teaching; they have three children.

 

Lorna Smith

Andy West

Link trustee with Ridley Hall, Cambridge

Andy is a trained horticulturist and has worked for various garden centre groups, most recently as Purchasing Director of Dobbies Garden Centres. He has also taught students at Oxford Brookes University studying for an MA in Retail. Andy is very active in his local church where he has been Churchwarden, a member of PCC and Chair of a major church building project, as well as being involved in both adult and youth ministry. He is a link trustee with Ridley Hall, Wycliffe's sister college in Cambridge.

In his spare time, he loves spending time with the family, and enjoys gardening, walking and cycling as well as holidays.
